On Wednesday afternoon a 75-year old man died after a motor vehicle collision around a half of a mile away from O’Neill in northern Nebraska.
Police reports indicate that the man was at a stop sign and turned east onto Nebraska Highway 108, while he took the turn to wide and entered the westbound lane into oncoming traffic. The man’s vehicle was struck by another car traveling on the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle did not suffer from any visible injuries.
Unfortunately, head-on collisions are one of the most deadly types of accidents across our Nebraska roadways. During a head-on collision, if both vehicles strike each other while one vehicle is driving 70 miles per hour and the other is traveling 30 miles per hour, the force generated will be equivalent to a collision occurring at 100 miles per hour.
