Toyota, Honda add 2.7 million more cars to air bag recall
The NHTSA recalled over 33 million airbags that have been used in various vehicle productions. So far, Toyota and Honda have included approximately 2.7 million additional vehicles for Toyota with over one million for Honda.
The defective airbag models had been installed on a wide variety of models manufactured by each car maker, and all other automotive builders are also assessing the possibility that they will have models needing inclusion.
This is an ongoing process, as there are still millions of drivers on the highway in vehicles that could release airbags at any time.
This also creates a very dangerous situation for other drivers on the highway who may be involved in an accident due to a defective airbag release, so the potential for an exponential number of lawsuits exists when crashes are investigated for Takata air bag causation. So far, seven people have died in Takata air bag accidents, and all of the victims were in Hondas.
New models added to the original recall lists for each manufacturer include:
- 2003-2007 Corolla and Corolla Matrix
- 2005-2006 Tundra
- 2005-2007 Sequoia
- 2003-2007 Lexus 430SC
- 2001-2005 Civic
- 2003-2007 Accord
